Braves Sign Undrafted Free Agent Steve Borkowski

According to the Braves transaction page RHP Steve Borkowski (@Steven_bork5) signed a minor league contract Friday.
Borkowski is a 6’2” 202 pound righty who transferred from San Diego Mesa to St. Catherine’s College in 2013 after throwing 84+ innings while posting 6-4 record in 12 starts including one complete game with a 4.46 ERA.
In his first season at St Catherine’s he made 12 starts and appeared twice in relief. ON the season he was 6-5 with one save in 77 IP with a4.09 ERA and 1.35 WHIP striking out 49 and walking 18.
According to the St Catherine’s College web site, last season Borkowski developed a stronger mental approach and impressed his coach Luther Barmblett .

That improvement was evident in his improved numbers. This season he appeared in 17 games including 13 starts posting a 2.65 ERA and 1.09 WHIP while striking out 86 and walking 24. He finished the season with a 7-5 record and four saves. while throwing 91 2/3 innings.
During the first week of May Borkowski threw a no-hitter against Cumberlands college and posted three saves earning hi recognition at NAIA National Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
After Leaving St Catherine’s Borkowski joined Top Speed Baseball where he appeared in nine games including five starts, striking out 46 and walking 12 and allowing 23 hits in 45 2/3 IP. He finished the short season with a 0.21 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and a 5-1 record.
He went with one CG. He walked just 28 in those innings. He is a 3 pitch guy with good stuff. He’ll be upper 80’s and has shown the ability to throw strikes. He was named Honorable Mention All-Pacific Coast Conference.
The Braves assigned him to Danville where he’s made one appearance to date.
Other Miscellaneous Bits
On Friday the Braves sent LHP Josh Outman on a rehab assignment to Carolina Mudcats and the Mississippi Braves released LHP Francisco Rondon.
