Atlanta Braves News: The Afternoon Chop, Box Score, SunTrust Park, Mike Foltynewicz
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves lost game 2 of their series against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday 7-3. The game started off great for the Braves as Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer in the 1st inning off Ubaldo Jimenez, but then the O’s offense got a shot…specifically Chris Davis. Davis hit a three-run homer and a tw0-run homer in the first two innings of the game against Julio Teheran. Another ugly performance on the road for Teheran. Atlanta is now 46-54 in 2015.

SunTrust Park bridge design gets OK
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: DID YOU KNOW!!! The Atlanta Braves are building a brand new state-of-the-art facility in Cobb County, Georgia. If you didn’t know, now you do. It’s scheduled to open in 2017 for fans to enjoy the entertainment ball park. It seems like every day a new step gets completed in the process and yesterday the bridge to link the park to parking decks across the interstate was approved.
"A preliminary design for a bridge to link SunTrust Park and mixed-use development in Cobb County, Ga., with parking decks across Interstate 285,was approved Tuesday night. The design approved by Cobb County’s Board of Commissioners shows a 1,100-foot single-decker bridge that would span from Circle 75 to Cobb Galleria Centre, reports Atlanta Business Chronicle broadcast partner WXIA-TV. (Click here to see the bridge and WXIA’s broadcast).Previous concepts suggested a double-decker bridge and multiple lanes for transit. The design approved Tuesday includes a lane for pedestrians and a single lane for a shuttle bus – and possibly a bicycle lane. A wall separates the pedestrian and shuttle lanes."

Atlanta Braves are gambling on future prospects in trades
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: This article made the link dump because of the comments Bill Shanks makes in the third paragraph down. He states that the Braves have at least listened for trades involving Andrelton Simmons. This caught me off guard just a bit, but I guess anything is possible at the right price…as we’ve learned this year with John Hart. Do I think the Braves trade Simmons? No. Maybin? Maybe. Three days left until the Trade Deadline and the Braves still haven’t made a huge splash – except for the Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson trade to the Mets.
"This year, like 1987, the Braves aren’t very good. They might be hanging around in the NL East, but they are not very good. The Braves haven’t been above .500 since June 1, and the last day they were two games above .500 was April 22.So for the first time in years, the Braves are sellers as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. In fact, you might have to go back to 1990 to find the last time the Braves were trading a veteran for young players in a late-summer trade. That deal was Dale Murphy to the Philadelphia Phillies for three young prospects. The Braves have been in the race every season since, so they’ve been buyers instead of sellers. There have been rumors the Braves have at least listened on other veterans, like Julio Teheran and Andrelton Simmons. Well, there is no Chipper Jones on this team, so the Braves probably will listen on anybody. But the price will be high on players who have long-term contracts."

What’s Next?
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: As Alan wrote about yesterday, Michael Foltynewicz will pitch in tonight’s series final against the Orioles. The 23-year-old has made 10 starts for the Gwinnett Braves in 2015 and nine starts for the Braves when he was up in the big leagues earlier this season. In Gwinnett, he was 1-6 with a 3.49 ERA in 56.2 innings pitched. He continues to dominate pitchers as he had 63 strikeouts and a opponents batting average of .242 in 2015.
"Braves: Mike Foltynewicz will start in place of the injured Manny Banuelos when Atlanta and Baltimore conclude this three-game series on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. ET . Foltynewicz will be making his first start since he was removed from Atlanta’s rotation and first optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on June 18."
