We had a terrible season in 2015 – and I don’t mean just the Atlanta Braves. This is about our own staff predictions of how the season would play out. When we last visited this question, the results were ugly… much worse than Rookie Dress-up Day.
Fortunately some of us were able to redeem ourselves… very slightly… in the Post-Season Awards segment.
The MLB Award Winners
In case you weren’t paying attention this week, they were…
- League MVPs: Josh Donaldson and Bryce Harper
- League Cy Guys: Dallas Keuchel and Jake Arrieta
- Rookies of the Year: Carlos Correa and Kris Bryant
I didn’t have the staff pick managers of the year… I expect most actually would have gotten Joe Maddon… but whiffed on Jeff Banister.
How Did We Do, Then?
Here were the guesses… and points awarded… in order of MVP/CY/ROY:
- ALAN – Trout and Kershaw, King Felix and Kershaw, Carlos Rodon and Kris Bryant. 1 point.
- ANDREW – Trout and Harper, Felix and Zimmermann, Rodon and Jorge Soler. 1 point.
- BEN – Trout and McCutchen, Felix and Kershaw, Steven Souza and Soler. Whiff.
- BRANDON – Trout and McCutchen, Felx and Kershaw, Rodon and Bryant. 1 point.
- FLETCHER – Trout and Freddie Freeman, Taijuan Walker and Jake Arrieta, Byron Buxton and Jace Peterson. 1 point.
- FRED – Robbie Cano and Matt Kemp, Chris Sale and Max Scherzer, Rondon and Bryant. 1 point.
- JEFF – Trout and Stanton, Price and Scherzer, Dalton Pompey and Jace. Whiff.
- RYAN – Trout and Soler, Feliz and Kershaw, Rusney Castillo and Soler. Zippo.
Okay so… nobody got more than 1 point…it was a five-way tie for the “win”. Kris Bryant was the best selection among us – clearly. That said, Clayton Kershaw did finish third in the Cy race and Max Scherzer was fifth, so those weren’t crazy picks at all. Fletcher had some picks that were quite ‘out there’, but one of those was Cy Winner Arrieta.
On the AL side, Chris Sale was 4th and Felix Hernandez was 7th. Not sure how all of us missed on the ROY tally. Thought somebody would have named Correa or Francisco Lindor, but no dice.
Next: Oh What a Relief It... Isn't
So there it is… and we’ll take our lumps proudly. But as a memo to all of you: given how bad we all did this season… it might be a good idea to get us locked into your fantasy league for next year.
