Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Freddie Freeman Set To Return!

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves offense was not able to figure out San Diego’s starting pitcher Colin Rea. In his second professional start, the 24-year-old went 5.2 innings, giving up five hits and two runs…on his way to picking up his second win. Braves starter Williams Perez continues to look for stride after coming back from his foot injury. He pitched all right, but not good enough. A bright spot from Monday? Cameron Maybin continues to stay hot at the plate as he blasted his 10th homer of the season and drove in his 50th RBI.

Braves face former closer Kimbrel in 5-3 loss to Padres
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves had closer Craig Kimbrel sweating a little in the 9th inning when Nick Markakis got a leadoff single and A.J. Pierzynski followed with a walk. Kimbrel was able to get Adonis Garcia to strikeout, but not Jace Peterson. Peterson hit a single into center field that scored Markakis. Kimbrel then got Nick Swisher to strikeout and Andrelton Simmons to pop out to right field to end the ball game. Kimbrel, though not having his best season in San Diego, is still one of the games best closers.
"Kimbrel, obtained from the Braves the day before the season started, got his 34th save after allowing one run on two hits and a walk.“He’s got plenty of stuff to get out of it,” Gonzalez said. “He can get a punch-out anytime he wants. It’s hard to square him up at 96, 97, and he has a breaking ball. So we have seen that before and I thought our guys put some pretty good at-bats against him.”“I think Perez did OK,” Gonzalez said. “Just one inning. It started with Norris’ chopper and he couldn’t get an out there and a base hit by Venable and scored two. But other than that I thought he did a nice job.”"
Braves 1B Freeman set to come off DL
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Here he comes! Freddie Freeman is ready to return to the Braves lineup on Wednesday. On Sunday, Freeman played with the Gwinnett Braves and went 1-5 with a single and two strikeouts. On Monday, he went 2-3 at the plate with a double, a single, two walks and two RBIs. Gwinnett has a game on Tuesday, but will be off on Wednesday. Expect Freeman to join the Braves on Wednesday in San Diego if all goes right.
"Freddie Freeman is scheduled to come off the disabled list when eligible Wednesday in San Diego and this time the Atlanta Braves first baseman will have had an ample number of minor league rehab games.That wasn’t the case at the end of his first DL stint and he played in just 10 games before hurting himself again, although it was a different injury.“My legs felt great. Everything felt great,” said Freeman, who tweaked his side swinging on Aug. 3 against San Francisco. “It was just one of those things. I’ve seen some articles that have said I might have come back too early, but that’s not the case. I felt great when I came back. It’s just that an oblique can happen sometimes. Unfortunately, it happened a couple of weeks ago. But it’s all healed up now and that’s all I can ask for.”"
