The AAA affiliate Of the Atlanta Braves is rebranding as the Gwinnett Stripers
Some major news broke Friday in the minors as the Atlanta Braves Triple-A team, now-formally known as the Gwinnett Braves, announced their new name. The former G-Braves have rebranded and will now be known as the Gwinnett Stripers.
The unveiling took place during a press conference at the team’s home at Coolray Field on Friday. They even went ahead and show the new uniforms the players will rock. Everything is available for fans to buy including 4 new cap designs.
According to team’s GM, North Johnson via Gwinnett Daily Post, they were looking for something “indigenous to the area, something completely ours.”

This comes as a bit of a surprise as Stripers was not one of the names that fans were given to vote on.
The name refers to striped bass were is apparently very common in Georgia. It is an alteration to one of the original choices: the Gwinnett Big Mouths, which is based on Georgia’s official state fish, the Largemouth Bass.
“We did research on striped bass at Lake Lanier and found out Lake Lanier is one of the best striped bass places in the entire world. That just made sense,” Johnson told the GDP.
Back in May, there was talk that the team wanted to change its name to avoid confusion with the Atlanta Braves. The organization also has the Mississippi Braves, Rome Braves, Danville Braves as well as the GCL Braves.
