The Atlanta Braves re-sign Danny Santana on a minor league deal
By John Le
The 27-year-old utility player is coming back after being non-tendered by the Atlanta Braves earlier this month
Not big breaking news but the Atlanta Braves have signed Danny Santana on a minor league deal. The veteran utility player appeared in 69 games for the Braves in 2017 after being acquired from the Minnesota Twins for LHP Kevin Chapman.

Santana hit a total of .203 with 3 home runs and 22 RBIs. On the field, he played all outfield spots, mostly left field and some at 2nd and 3rd. This gives some flexibility defensively for the Braves and he also has some speed. He had 6 steals for Atlanta last season.
Santana landed some time on the DL back in August-September with a strained left quad.
They had non-tendered him early December along with Matt Adams and Jace Peterson, avoiding arbitration.
Santana was a former top prospect for the Twins and was actually 7th in Rookie-of-the-Year voting in 2014.
This seems like a move to add depth and eventually have him for a bench role.
If Santana gets an invitation to spring training -or is looked at as possible bench piece- he’ll have to prove as a better option than OF Lane Adams, who’s already on the roster.
Adams has speed himself and a decent bat, so Santana’s versatility is his main card.
To help his cause, Santana is also a switch-hitter.
