Atlanta Braves 2020 MLB Draft Guide and Preview

We gather all the information you need to get ready for the 2020 MLB Draft as an Atlanta Braves fan. The when, where, and how for this year’s draft.

Over the last several weeks now we’ve written extensively about the Atlanta Braves upcoming part in the 2020 MLB Draft.

Honestly, it’s been a relief to write about something else than the ongoing drama between the MLB and its players.

And now the day has finally come for the Braves to bring in four new prospects to hopefully build up a farm system that is steadily declining with their top prospects all being promoted.

Don’t get me wrong, the Braves still have a very strong farm system, but after the top five-to-eight things are not looking great.

And, of course, the Braves will pick up more than just four players in this draft with the opportunity to sign any undrafted players for $20,000. I’m sure we’ll see a lot of that this year.

But let’s get into the specifics.

When Will the Draft Take Place

Round 1 will take place on Wednesday, June 10. starting at 7 p.m. ET. This includes the seven Competitive Balance Round A picks, so we’ll have 37 players drafted on day one.

The rest of the draft will take place on Thursday, June 11 starting at 5 p.m. ET and this will be rounds 2-5.

Where to Watch

Both days will be televised on MLB Network and ESPN. As far as I know, this is the first time in a while (maybe ever) that ESPN will air the MLB Draft.

The second day of the draft will be on ESPN2 instead of ESPN.

When do the Braves Pick

Atlanta will have just one pick on day one with that pick being 25th overall. If I had to guess, this pick won’t happen until around 9 p.m. ET.

Here is a look at some of the latest mock drafts to see who the Braves could take at 25.

The Braves forfeited their second-round pick when they signed Will Smith and their compensation pick for losing Josh Donaldson to the Twins was canceled out when they signed Marcell Ozuna.

That means the Braves’ second pick doesn’t come until the third round at 97th overall.

Their final two picks will come at 127 and 156.

FanGraphs’ THE BOARD has over 230 draft prospects, so that gives you a good idea of who the Braves could be targeting at each spot.
